Megan Kauffeld & Mike Pfender Say 'I do' at the SCI Pavilion
One of the things we love about our job is learning all the unique ways our couple’s love stories have led them to the Inn. What follows is the tale, start to finish, of Megan Kauffeld (now Pfender!) and Mike Pfender’s own love story.
Tell us how and when you met each other. What was your first impression of one another, and at what moment did you know you’d be together forever?
We met on Plenty of Fish, a dating site he thought was a fishing website. The night we first met in person I asked him, “are you going to steal my car” when I ran into a store. He got more than a fish and he didn’t steal my car, but he did steal my heart. We knew it was forever 2 years in when he told me he loved my daughter before he loved me and wanted to move in together. She was 5. [Three] years later we decided we’d like to have a baby together and we had our son. Together for 17 years, he proposed, and we celebrated our 18-year dateaversary 2 days after our wedding.
Tell us about the proposal, share some pics, and show us your ring!
We were away on vacation and one night, we decided to stay at the cabin we had rented for the week. He got down on one knee on the deck and said, “[H]ow about we do this for the next thirty years.” I jumped up and down, screaming “yes” repeatedly and we set a date that night.
What led you to Stroudsmoor Country Inn? What inspired you to celebrate your wedding with us?
I had been searching for wedding venues that offered an outdoor ceremony option and a rustic reception area. Stroudsmoor checked all our boxes and we knew immediately upon seeing The Pavillion and the ceremony site that it had to be where we said “I do.”
What is the one menu item that sticks out above all else from your wedding celebration? What about your favorite décor detail?
We got so many compliments on the food. The items that stuck out the most to me was the salmon dolce and the seafood cakes. Also, the cakes were AMAZING. We had four flavors and ate every ounce of what was sent packed with us.
The centerpieces were so cute and so us and the way the arch was decorated brought my vision to life with the fishing net and wisteria.
What made your Wedding Journey with us most memorable?
Danica’s attention to detail with the planning made my day seamless. That along with Grayson and her team’s flower arrangements, especially mine, and decorating will always hold a special place in my heart. The reception attendants knocked it out of the park. The whole team made my day magical.
What is one hope you have in celebrating your first anniversary?
We hope to be on our honeymoon for our first anniversary, but we also want to plan a date weekend back to Stroudsmoor to feel the magic again.
