Chelsea and Douglas were married on a gorgeous winter day in front of the grand fireplace at Woodsgate Pavillion. Woodsgate is the oldest and most historic of the Inn’s 24 buildings. Once a barn for winter storage, Woodsgate is now restored to invoke a rustic-chic vibe for many a couple seeking a natural environment for their celebrations.
How and where you did you meet?
We met on the Hinge dating app. Chelsea was living in Manhattan at the time and Doug was living in Hoboken, NJ. We had our first date at Calexico, a Mexican restaurant, in the city.
What were your first impressions of each other?
Chelsea: I thought Doug was funny and sweet and definitely a family man, which was really important to me.
Doug: I thought Chelsea was friendly and easy-going. I could also tell she was spontaneous and down for an adventure.
Tell us about the proposal?
Doug proposed in January of 2021 in Lake Tahoe while on a snowboarding trip with a few close family members and friends. His original plan was to go to the top of the mountain, but the day did not go as planned so when Chelsea found a pretty lookout spot she wanted to take a photo at, Doug knew it was his chance. Chelsea thought they were just enjoying the view but then Doug got down on one knee and the rest is history!
Why did you chose Stroudsmoor for your wedding celebration?
We have always loved the mountains, so when we visited the Stroudsmoor we fell in love instantly as it’s nestled beautifully in the Poconos. When we visited Woodsgate specifically, it was the perfect combination of rustic, outdoorsy and elegant and we felt it represented us perfectly. We knew the giant fireplace in the Pavilion would be the perfect backdrop for a cozy, winter mountain wedding.
What was the one wedding detail you loved the most?
We absolutely loved the details that the decor team provided, especially the perfect balance of candles and seasonal greenery throughout– it felt like an enchanted winter forest and exceeded all of our expectations. We also were taken aback by the attentiveness of the staff to the bridal party. From before the ceremony started all the way through the end of dinner, the staff made sure we had everything we wanted and even brought our drink orders + extra hors d’oeuvres to the bridal suite for us after the ceremony.
What was the favorite food or beverage detail about your wedding menu?
Chelsea: I loved the hors d’oeuvres, specifically the mini shepherd’s pies. I also really enjoyed the chocolate peanut butter torte cake.
Doug: I’m usually not a cake person but loved both cakes. The chocolate peanut butter torte cake and the strawberries and cream cake were both amazing.
Share an anniversary hope.
One of our favorite moments was when we finally sat down at our table for dinner after all the hustle and bustle of taking photos during the cocktail hour, greeting our guests, and introductions. Sitting down next to your new spouse with your best friends/siblings next to you, while looking out at all of the people who came to celebrate you, is a really special moment. It was also the first time we felt like we got to relax and take a breath!
