Tell us how and where you met each other?
Ty and I met on Tinder in 2015. We “matched” while I was in my junior year of college at Villanova University, and he was visiting a friend in King of Prussia (who would eventually be Ty’s best man in our wedding) nearby. Ty was the only guy I talked with on the app before I quickly deleted it after giving him my cellphone number just a few weeks later. While we “met” online in 2015, we didn’t meet in person until 2016 when we happened to be heading to the same place at the same time. Just a few days after the Villanova men’s basketball team won the NCAA championship in April 2016, I was heading out with girlfriends for my 22nd birthday, and Ty and his friend were heading to Villanova too as there was quite a buzz of excitement following the big win. Ty and I still kept in touch at the time, and when casually texting about what we were up to that night, we realized we were going to the same place. We spent the night together, went on a breakfast date two days later at Nudy’s Cafe in Wayne, and the rest is history!
What was your first impression of one another, and the day you knew you would be together forever?
I knew right away that Ty could be my husband someday. I quickly noticed how hard working he was in that he was studying to be an engineer, and he was extremely handy. He was smart, funny, and easy to talk to. His family was important to him, and he couldn’t wait to get a dog, just like me. Even though we didn’t meet in person for over a year, we somehow never ran out of things to talk about.
Ty knew that I was the one after our first camping trip together just two months into dating. It’s a story we tell over and over again and laugh, and is a memory that we will never forget. In June 2016, me, Ty, his best man, and another friend went camping and fishing in central Pennsylvania. We hiked miles into the woods to a camping spot (not a campground, I might add), with loads of gear on our backs and little cell service. It ended up down-pouring for several days, but we stuck it out, hiking up muddy hills and wet wading in a blown out river. My perseverance paid off, and Ty knew I was “the one!”
Tell us about the proposal – show us the ring?
In 2018, Ty and I had been living in Syracuse, New York where he began his career as an engineer, and I was going to law school. We planned a spring break trip to Lake Placid, NY having never been there and wanting to experience it during the wintertime. The night before we left on the trip and during the ride up, Ty was very gung-ho about going on a snowshoe hike right when we got there. I was not thrilled about the idea because the hike seemed like it was going to be very difficult, and there was several feet of snow on the mountain. But, I could tell how much he wanted to go on this hike (he’s the more adventurous one if you couldn’t already tell), and so I said yes. Upon arriving in Lake Placid after a four hour drive, we went for lunch. Ty barely finished half of his sandwich, and he didn’t talk much. This was definitely out of character for him. After lunch, we drove around Mirror Lake, admiring the beauty of the charming town blanketed in fresh snow, and stopped near woods right off the lake as opposed to going to the original hiking spot (knowing how much I did NOT want to do that hike). We walked a few dozen feet ahead into a field butting up to the woods. It was beautiful. Ty set up his tripod and camera (one of his many hobbies), and asked me to stand in front of it while he set up the timer so that we could take some photos together. This was nothing out of the ordinary as this is something we do everywhere we go. Ty set the timer, ran to me, and immediately got down on one knee as the camera took 10 photos. To say that I was absolutely shocked was an understatement! I had no idea I was sabotaging his proposal/hiking plan all of that time! We then spent a magical few days in Lake Placid together.
Tell us what led you to Stroudsmoor and your reason for celebrating at the Inn?
Ty and I were drawn to Stroudsmoor’s beautiful surroundings. We knew that we wanted our wedding to be in a mountain setting with a grand feel, and Stroudsmoor had exactly that. Terraview’s building and view was absolutely breathtaking, and we knew that it would make the most stunning wedding photos. Stroudsmoor’s attention to detail ultimately led us to choose to celebrate our wedding at the Inn. It was evident that Stroudsmoor’s staff would ensure the most seamless and beautiful wedding day. They did exactly that (like having glue on the ready when my husband’s shoe sole came off at the reception)! Not to mention, the many conveniences located right on site. We can’t wait to celebrate my sister’s wedding in July 2023 and experience a Stroudsmoor wedding all over again!
What was the one menu and décor detail you loved most about your celebration?
We couldn’t help but feel the magic of our ceremony space. We opted for the beautiful white faux florals from Stroudsmoor to adorn the iron dome gazebo and the urns, and our ceremony photos are now some of our absolute favorites from our wedding day.
Our guests still rave about the endless amount of hors d’oeuvres at our cocktail hours thanks to Stroudsmoor. The hot pretzel bar at the Pavilion after party was especially a hit.
What made your Stroudsmoor Wedding Journey most memorable?
Beyond the amazing wedding itself, we loved visiting Stroudsmoor for our planning meetings every few months and for the grand tasting event. At each visit, we were able to celebrate our engagement and get excited about our future wedding day. We wish we could do it all over again!
